Tai Chi Chuan is based on a series of slow moving, circular dance-like movements designed to unite body and mind. There are many systems of Tai Chi, one of the most popular being the Yang style. This is typified by big, gentle, graceful and flowing movements, and a philosophy of harmony. The poses reflect the dual forces of nature and the sequences of poses provide balance and harmony. Deep natural breathing, twisting, spiralling, stretching and relaxing movements help to massage internal organs and balance the body’s energies. During Tai Chi, the mind is relaxed and focused on breath and the slow, fluid movement from one pose to the next.
