Macrobiotics

Macrobiotics literally means ‘long life’. It is a dietary system developed by George Ohsawa in Japan, formulated from the work of Dr Ishizuka who developed a dietary system that cured his own tuberculosis. Macrobiotics draws on the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang - two qualities that complement and balance each other, and form part of each natural object. Everyone has both yin and yang elements, so does food. Macrobiotics aims to balance the two complementary principles in the right way for each individual. Practitioners regard it as a way of life, where all can benefit from increased energy, healthy appearance and the greater resistance to illness it brings.
